Guangzhou Zoo was built in 1958, covering a total area of 42 hectares. More than 700 domestic and overseas species, nearly 20000 animals in total are being raised and exhibited in the zoo. It's one of the three biggest city zoos in China, attracting more than 4 million visitors every year.

After 50 years' development, Guangzhou Zoo has developed into a very popular tourist attraction.In 2008,Guangzhou Zoo was awarded the AAAA National Tourist Attraction by China National Tourist Attraction Quality Evaluation Committee. It's a place not only for animal exhibition and scientific education, but also for amusement and catering. Animal display zones are as follows: Insects, Fish, Reptiles and Amphibians, Birds and Mammals. In recent years, more animal features have been introduced in the zoo, such as Guangzhou Ocean World, Butterfly Garden, Goldfish Garden and exciting Animal Performances. Besides the fascinating "Animal Feeding Show" and Animal Performance, the Animal Square is also a good place for visitors to take photos with the lovely animal stars. Apart from these attractions, fast food, Chinese cuisine, shops and the amusement park give visitors a place to relax and be entertained.

Guangzhou Zoo serves as an important venue for relocation wildlife protection. More than a hundred species are bred here. Guangzhou Zoo is also a place for exhibiting of flora.
